Industry NewsWates confirms George Mosey as permanent managing director of London construction business
UK contractor Wates has confirmed the permanent appointment of George Mosey as managing director for Construction London, ending an interim period that began in February following the departure of his predecessor Steve Holbrook. The appointment comes as Wates Group reports a record £10bn order book and a tenfold increase in pre-tax profit to £29.2m on turnover of £2.56bn.
Building reported that Mosey joined Wates in March 2025 as UK operations director before stepping into the London construction role on an interim basis. Prior to joining Wates, he spent 16 years at Laing O'Rourke, rising to become head of procurement.
Steff Battle, executive managing director of Wates Construction, said: "Since stepping into the role on an interim basis, George has brought strong leadership and a clear sense of direction for the Construction London team. His ability to build momentum has been evident, and I am delighted to confirm his appointment on a permanent basis and to see his energy and focus continue to drive the business forward."
Wates will now begin recruiting a replacement UK operations director following Mosey's move into the permanent London managing director position.
Holbrook, who joined Wates in 2024 from Skanska, departed the business in February. His career at Skanska began in 1995.
The appointment follows a period of significant structural change at the group, including the 2024 integration of Liberty and the Wates Fit Out business. Wates recently opened a new Bristol office and made further senior leadership additions, including the return of Jenny Martin as pre-construction director.
