Tesco to start building new store in Cavan Town

Tesco Ireland will begin construction of a new 35,000 square foot store in Cavan Town in Spring 2026, following the completion of all planning and legal processes.

The site is located at Townparks, with an announcement on the future of the existing store expected soon.

“The construction phase of the new Tesco store will be led by local building contractors,” a Tesco spokesperson said. The company added this approach will ensure its multi-million-euro investment (€XXm) “directly supports the local economy and creates employment opportunities for skilled workers in the region.”

Once complete, the store will provide a modern, sustainable shopping experience, featuring Click+Collect, a Grocery Home Shopping Hub, enhanced parking, and EV charging points.

Arlene Maguire, Property Director for Tesco Ireland, said: “We are excited to begin work on the new Cavan store in Spring 2026, working with local contractors to deliver a modern retail destination for the community. It’s taken some time for us to get to this point, and we thank everyone for their patience, your new store is coming soon. We’re fully committed to supporting a vibrant, thriving Cavan Town.”

Tesco has served the Cavan area since acquiring the Quinnsworth brand in 1997 and currently operates three stores across the county.
