Keepmoat's adoption of The Pallet LOOP's green pallets extends a circular economy model beyond materials suppliers into housebuilding.

The Pallet LOOP has partnered with Keepmoat, a top 10 UK housebuilder, to expand adoption of its reusable green pallets across the group's live construction sites.

The Pallet LOOP, headquartered in Ketteringham, Norfolk, runs a closed loop pallet collection and reuse scheme for the UK construction sector, working with contractors, housebuilders and builders' merchants to cut single-use timber pallet waste. The Pallet LOOP is part of BSW Group and a member of Binderholz, a major European timber processing group, giving it backing to scale collection nationally.

Keepmoat, based in Doncaster, will roll out the scheme's green Loop pallets across its 79 live sites, with The Pallet LOOP paying Keepmoat between £2 and £4 (€2.34 and €4.68) per pallet returned, depending on condition.

Financial terms: partially disclosed, with a set per-pallet payment range rather than an overall deal value.

The partnership extends a reuse model already proven with building-materials manufacturers into the housebuilding tier, where pallet volumes are largest and reuse rates lowest.

The structural driver is a stark reuse gap: construction pallet reuse sits below 10%, against roughly 98% in FMCG retail, despite the sector using around 20 million pallets annually.

For Keepmoat, participation offers a low-cost route to sustainability credentials and a direct payment per pallet returned; for The Pallet LOOP, a top 10 housebuilder client validates the closed loop model beyond materials suppliers such as British Gypsum, CEMEX and Wienerberger.

Reuse economics matter beyond cost. An estimated 6,000 acres of forestry are harvested annually to supply construction pallets, with a further 236,000 acres grown to meet future demand, underlining the resource case for closing the loop.

For the sector, the signal is clear: pallet reuse is shifting from a materials-supplier initiative to a housebuilder standard, and volume commitments from top 10 builders will determine how quickly reuse rates close the gap with retail.
