Industry NewsMott MacDonald acquires Australian civil contractor Leed to build integrated water infrastructure offering
Global engineering consultancy Mott MacDonald has entered into an agreement to acquire Leed Engineering and Construction, a privately owned Australian civil contractor with more than 350 employees and offices in South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales. The deal establishes a fully integrated design and construction capability in Australia, with a particular focus on the delivery and remediation of water infrastructure assets.
Utility Magazine reported that the acquisition will see Leed join JN Bentley, Mott MacDonald's UK-based design and build subsidiary, which operates Mott MacDonald Bentley, a combined design and contracting team of nearly 3,000 people providing fully integrated civil engineering services to the UK water sector. The Australian acquisition mirrors the model already established in the UK.
Founded in 2001, Leed has grown into a national infrastructure contractor with experience across water, dams, environmental works, roads, bridges and general earthworks, serving clients including SA Water, Coliban Water and Snowy Hydro.
Adrian Jones, Mott MacDonald's regional managing director for Asia Pacific, New Zealand and Australia, said: "There is a significant demand for new and upgraded infrastructure across Australia and particularly in the water sector. By combining the capabilities of Mott MacDonald and Leed it takes our technical expertise to the next level, enabling us to provide a fully integrated design and construction offering to our clients in this space."
Paul Bentley, managing director of JN Bentley, said: "Leed has built an impressive reputation across Australia for delivering high quality, technically challenging projects, and their expertise is well aligned with our own commitment to safe, reliable and innovative delivery."
