Industry NewsML Quinn secures contract for West Sligo social housing scheme
Sligo County Council has formally contracted ML Quinn Building Contractors to deliver 26 social housing units across two sites in West Sligo, marking progression of the local authority's housing capital programme with construction scheduled to commence this month and completion targeted for the second quarter of 2027.
The Irish Independent reported that the scheme comprises 18 housing units at St. Farnan's Drive, Knockaculleen Townland, Dromore West, and eight units at Woodland Crescent, Aderavoher Townland, Easkey. ML Quinn was appointed following competitive tender procedures, with both developments designed by Sligo County Council's Housing Capital Section.
Cathaoirleach Councillor Donal Gilroy said the projects represent significant investment in the future of communities in Dromore West and Easkey. He noted that providing safe, modern and affordable homes ranks among the council's highest priorities, with the contract signing marking an important step in meeting that commitment.
The schemes form part of Sligo County Council's ongoing efforts to expand high-quality housing options across the county, addressing demand for social housing in regional locations. The dual-site approach reflects targeted investment in West Sligo communities where housing need has been identified through local authority assessment processes.
ML Quinn Building Contractors will deliver the projects under standard local authority construction contracts, with works progressing through design, procurement and delivery phases already completed by the council's in-house capital team. The Q2 2027 completion target positions the units for handover during the spring building season.
The contract award adds to Ireland's social housing construction pipeline, with local authorities nationwide progressing projects through design and procurement stages to address housing requirements identified in statutory housing strategies and delivery programmes.
