County Mayo-headquartered electrical contracting business Mellett has appointed Thomas "Tommy" Drumm, former managing director of Collen Construction, as executive advisor to support the company's growth strategy and expansion into new markets, bringing decades of leadership experience in scaling organisations and driving international development.

Construction Wave reported that Drumm, now retired, previously served as managing director at Collen Construction for more than a decade before retiring in March 2024 to undertake a one-year board advisory role until March 2025. Prior to Collen, he spent two years at Laing O'Rourke in leadership roles for the UK Construction South division.

During his time at Collen, Drumm helped position the business for expansion, including working with PwC on a strategic roadmap towards becoming a €1bn company and supporting the transition to a new chief executive and executive management team structure, according to Mellett.

Brendan Mellett, chief executive of Mellett, said Drumm is widely respected across the industry for his leadership and strategic perspective. He noted that having someone of his calibre advising the company as it continues to grow and expand into new markets is hugely valuable.

Prior to Drumm's appointment, Mellett also welcomed Patrick Geoghegan as commercial director and Ashlyn Price as operations director. The appointments reflect the company's strategic focus on strengthening leadership capacity to support growth objectives across domestic and international markets.

Mellett Electrical was established in 2010 by Brendan Mellett and today ranks as a leading name in the electrical contracting space, both in Ireland and abroad, employing more than 150 people. Key sectors currently include pharma, office and commercial, industrial, education, healthcare and data centres.
