Ecovolve drives electric transformation in construction machinery

Irish SME Ecovolve is redefining the future of construction equipment with fully electric dumpers and loaders designed to outperform traditional diesel models in both efficiency and performance. Based in County Laois, the company is one of the few globally developing purpose-built battery-powered machines for construction sites.

Founded by Sean Breen, Ecovolve began as a battery plant hire firm before evolving into a manufacturer of electric equipment purpose-built for sustainability and productivity. Its flagship dumper—available in 800kg, 1000kg, and 1500kg models—has already sold over 250 units worldwide. Each machine runs up to 10 hours on a single charge, using AGM batteries sourced from the UK, chosen for their safety and cost-efficiency compared to lithium-ion alternatives.

The company’s latest innovation, a battery-powered mini loader, takes this further. With an advanced steering system that minimises surface damage and boosts manoeuvrability, it can perform 20–25 cubic metres per hour, double the speed of conventional track loaders. Each motor is independently controlled, creating a power-on-demand system that maximises battery efficiency.

Ecovolve’s partnership with igus—a supplier of self-lubricating bearings—further enhances reliability by eliminating the need for grease or regular maintenance, cutting operating costs and downtime.

With demand growing across Europe and beyond, Breen plans to focus on engineering innovation rather than large-scale production, potentially licensing Ecovolve’s designs to industry partners in the future.
