Cubby Construction secures £15.6m Scottish harbour regeneration contract

Carlisle-based contractor Cubby Construction has been appointed to deliver a £15.6m (€18.2m) harbour regeneration project in Annan, southern Scotland, including a new maritime heritage centre, event space, leisure lagoon and cafe, with the firm taking site possession at the beginning of April and regeneration work expected to run for two years.

BBC reported that millions of pounds in funding for the project has been secured from the Scottish government, the UK government's Levelling Up Fund, Dumfries and Galloway Council and the South of Scotland Enterprise. The redevelopment will include a new visitor hub and cafe as part of the comprehensive harbour transformation.

Mike Rodger, who chairs the Annan Harbour Action Group, said after many years of decline and neglect, the dreams and vision of a few determined people are about to be realised. The milestone marks the start of an important chapter for the town, with the project group advancing plans developed over several years.

Annan harbour was once busy with shipbuilding, commerce and fishing but declined in the second half of the 20th century. The regeneration scheme aims to restore economic activity and visitor appeal to the historic waterfront location through creation of new facilities supporting maritime heritage, community events and leisure activities.

The £15.6m investment represents substantial public sector commitment to coastal regeneration in southern Scotland, with the funding package combining resources from multiple government sources at Scottish and UK levels alongside regional development agencies. The two-year construction programme will transform the harbour infrastructure and surrounding facilities.

Cubby Construction will spearhead delivery of the maritime heritage centre, event space and leisure facilities alongside public realm improvements and infrastructure works supporting the broader regeneration objectives.
