Kettering Health commences construction on Xenia medical center

US-based healthcare provider Kettering Health started construction on a 24,000-square-foot medical center in Xenia, Ohio, near the local YMCA at Progress Drive and Upper Bellbrook Road, with city and hospital leaders stating the facility will help address the shortage of primary care and outpatient specialist services in the area.

Dayton Daily News reported that Kettering Health Xenia Health Center will feature primary care offices, on-demand care, x-ray and lab services, as well as specialty providers including cardiologists, orthopedists and gynaecologists. The new facility will employ 20 providers across primary care and specialty services and 40 support staff members, with the building scheduled to open at the end of 2028.

Ethan Reynolds, mayor of Xenia, said the investment is a big win not only for Xenia but for all of Greene County, meaning continued access to care, more modern health facilities and a real commitment to meeting people where they are. He stated the moment represents forward motion with the $40m investment Kettering Health is making to keep Greene Memorial hospital open and build the new health centre.

Paul Hoover, president of Kettering Health Greene Memorial and Soin Medical Center, said together with the city of Xenia the organisation is expanding access to healthcare. He noted this is part of Kettering Health's commitment to provide exceptional patient experiences and coordinated care in Greene County.

In August 2024, Kettering Health announced plans to close the Monroe Drive hospital and replace it with a $44m medical center approximately 10 miles away. Xenia city officials voiced dissatisfaction with the proposal, characterising it as a reduction of services that would force Greene County residents outside county limits to find healthcare.
