Circular economy business The Pallet LOOP has returned an estimated £1.4 million (€1.63 million) to the UK and Irish construction sector since its launch in 2024, as reported by Show House. The scheme has issued more than 3 million of its green pallets and collected over 1.8 million from construction projects across both markets in its first two years of operation.
The Pallet LOOP incentivises pallet returns by paying registered partners between £2 and £4 (€2.32 and €4.65) for every pallet returned, combined with a fast collection service designed to reduce waste and improve sustainability across the construction supply chain. The company recently introduced a free three-day collection service to make returns faster and easier for contractors and builders.
The scheme has secured partnerships with major construction industry manufacturers including British Gypsum, Isover, Superglass by Etex, Wienerberger, Barratt Redrow and CEMEX. In Ireland, the business has partnered with Gyproc through CJ Sheeran, covering both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Andy Williamson, managing director of The Pallet LOOP, said: "Over the last two years, we've shown that a circular approach to pallet use in construction is not only possible, but commercially viable and scalable too. The industry has really embraced the concept of recovering, repairing and reusing pallets, and the momentum we're seeing across the supply chain is incredibly encouraging. Every pallet returned is reducing waste, cutting carbon and helping construction businesses operate more sustainably, which is exactly what The Pallet LOOP was created to achieve."
Since launch, The Pallet LOOP has received recognition across several industry award programmes, winning the Builders Merchants Federation Sustainability Award and the Sustainable Materials Award at the Supply Chain Excellence Awards in 2025. The company was also shortlisted for the Green Business Award, the British Business Awards and the Circular Economy Innovation of the Year Award at the edie Awards in 2025.
Construction and demolition waste remains a significant environmental challenge in the UK and Ireland. According to the UK Environment Agency, the construction sector accounts for approximately 62 million tonnes of waste annually, making supply chain circularity initiatives of this kind increasingly relevant to contractors managing both regulatory compliance and corporate sustainability commitments.
