Construction activity across the West Midlands is gathering pace as McPhillips, the Telford-based building and civil engineering firm, moves forward with a series of multimillion-pound projects spanning education, infrastructure, public realm and specialist facilities.

The company, which employs 240 people, has delivered 140 projects valued at £300 million (€351 million) over the past five years.

In 2026, it is set to complete several major schemes across Shropshire and the West Midlands while commencing new developments, reflecting continued demand across both public-facing and private-sector construction.

The year began with a groundbreaking ceremony at Finning UK & Ireland’s Cannock headquarters, marking the start of a £2.98 million (€3.5 million) Rebuild Centre of Excellence. The 33-week project follows the launch of Finning’s “Rebuilt and Ready to Go” programme and underlines growing investment in specialist operational facilities.

Elsewhere, McPhillips is refurbishing Addenbrooke House to create a new base for Telford College’s A-level provision, supporting regional education infrastructure.

The firm is also delivering a £20 million (€23.4 million) integrated retirement community in Newport, alongside a £3 million (€3.5 million) transformation of Brinton Park in Kidderminster.

Urban connectivity and regeneration remain a focus. The company is working on the Worcester Street Connectivity Project, part of a wider £20.5 million (€24 million) town-centre redevelopment, and has recently completed several infrastructure schemes.

In addition, these include works at the Mile End junction within Oswestry Innovation Park, a £13 million (€15.2 million) Dudley Road improvement scheme for Birmingham City Council, and a £700,000 (€820,000) upgrade to Station Approach in Stafford.
