McAvoy appoints new design manager to support healthcare construction growth
Northern Ireland-based offsite construction firm McAvoy has expanded its healthcare design capability with the appointment of Matthew Usher as healthcare design manager, supporting its modular construction work for NHS trusts and private providers across the UK and Ireland.
McAvoy, headquartered in Belfast, continues to develop its position in healthcare construction as demand grows for modular facilities across acute, community and non-clinical settings. Usher joins from Corstorphine & Wright, bringing experience from a range of clinical projects, including his work on The Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease. The company said he is recognised for designing compliant and adaptable healthcare spaces.
His role will cover national responsibilities, leading health-related design programmes and coordinating with the firm’s manufacturing teams as modules are produced with at least 70 per cent of the building completed offsite. McAvoy said the appointment supports its plans to scale output following recent contract wins and framework placements.
This year, the firm secured a place for the first time on the NHS Commercial Solutions Framework under Lot 2 for modular and prefabricated building services. It also retained its position on the NHS Shared Business Services Modular Building Framework for the third consecutive term. These frameworks give the manufacturer continued access to procurement routes used by trusts planning new facilities.
Recent projects include work at Good Hope Hospital and SmartCare rental units delivered for both acute and community use. According to Laura McCormick, healthcare strategy lead at McAvoy, “Healthcare providers continue to face rising demand, operational pressures and budget constraints.”
She added, “Strengthening our design capability is a key part of our strategy to help trusts deliver the facilities they need, including optimising funding, accelerating delivery programmes, and supporting long-term adaptability.”
