Jersey construction sector faces mounting pressure as firms collapse

Two long-standing construction companies, Style Group and Amplus Limited, have closed, sparking warnings of “shockwaves across the economy” from the Jersey Chamber of Commerce. The chamber fears the island’s capacity to deliver housing, schools and infrastructure could be severely undermined if further closures follow.

The JCC is urging government to accelerate capital projects and reform procurement to support local firms, warning that reliance on off-island contractors will drive up costs and drain skilled trades from the economy. Recent closures add to a string of failures in the sector since 2023, underscoring the fragility of the island’s construction market.
