Gravis Robotics has raised $23M (£20m) to scale its autonomous earthmoving technology across the UK, US, and EU.

The company’s systems integrate AI, cameras, and sensors to allow construction machinery to operate independently or support human operators, aiming to increase site productivity by up to 30%.

The technology is already deployed with Holcim, Taylor Woodrow, and HD Hyundai, operating in seven countries including LATAM and Asia. Gravis’s AI tools help with tasks such as stockpile management, quarry handling, and truck loading, streamlining processes traditionally reliant on manual labour.

Morgan Sindall Construction technical director Steffan Speer commented: “Construction faces major challenges, from attracting and retaining a skilled workforce to improving productivity. The industry has often been seen as slow to adopt new technologies. Working with Gravis Robotics, we’re changing that.”

CEO and co-founder Ryan Luke Johns said: “By giving operators real-time 3D intelligence and the ability to shift seamlessly between autonomy and augmented control, we cover more of the work, accelerate adoption and create the data pipeline needed to learn new capabilities from the industry’s hardest jobs.”

Gravis demonstrated its technology at a Taylor Woodrow infrastructure project at Manchester Airport, marking the UK’s first large-scale use of autonomous excavation on an active site. The company is also partnering with plant hire provider Flannery to deliver turnkey excavator solutions, combining equipment rental with its autonomous systems.

The latest funding round was co-led by IQ Capital and Zacua Ventures, alongside Pear VC, Imad (CVC of Nesma & Partners), Sunna Ventures, Armada Investment, and Holcim. The capital will support Gravis’s global expansion, increase staffing, and strengthen partnerships with OEMs, contractors, and dealers.
