Construction growth outpaces workforce supply in Wyoming

Wyoming’s construction sector continues to post strong gains in jobs and wages, yet employers in Johnson County are struggling to attract and retain young workers. Despite industry-wide growth and competitive benefits, local contractors report high turnover, a shrinking employment pool and reluctance among younger generations to enter the trades.

With demand projected to require 439,000 additional workers nationwide in 2025, the mismatch between sector growth and available labour threatens to constrain delivery on major projects. Long-term employees provide stability, but the lack of reliable new entrants risks stalling momentum in an industry that remains essential to state and national growth.
